《A Gathering of Friends》是 John Williams 晚年事业高峰期推出的又一佳作。《Cello Concerto》是他最具抒情性的协奏曲作品之一，于 1994 年为马友友创作，并于 2001 年录制。专辑中收录的是修改后的版本。二十年后，经过两人的深思熟虑，这部作品显得更加紧凑、热烈，并具有更加明显的欢乐情趣。专辑最后一曲《Song》也经过改编，纽约爱乐乐团的表现可圈可点。电影《辛德勒的名单》中的配乐一如既往地感人肺腑，吉他与竖琴作品（如作曲家 2018 年为纪念伯恩斯坦百年诞辰创作的《Highwood’s Ghost》）优美动听，乐团的演奏也极富感染力。
